Back Off The Pedal From the Metal
Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
Ferris Bueller was right.
We all need to take time to stop, look around us, and SEE (or, better yet, “soak in”) just what the hell could be flying by us like a speeding bullet (and, I aint’ talking about Superman champ).
Okay, so, here’s the deal though… maybe ya can’t !
That’s right. Maybe - just maybe - like me you get into these super-achiever modes where you wanna do, do, do and accomplish, accomplish, accomplish that you forget to push the “pause” button for gods sake.
Uggghhhh ! Uncool, very uncool.
While I take great pleasure in doing all I can to LEAD life, and not sit around as a passive observer, I truly also like relishing in appreciation too. Or, even occasional streaks of sentimental thought (hey, don’t push it - us Type A’s can’t go from occasional to consistent on stuff like this until somebody comes along and proves to use we can get an almost immediate RESULT from doing it :).
Anyway, back to what I was saying…
Yeah, yeah, oh yes … the sentimental thought stuff. So, I was forging through some emails, and cranking away at some project ideas on our private collaboration forum at LWL, when a sharp poke broke my mesmerized work mode.
It was a figurative thud on the head, but from the inside, almost like some big giant cocked back his index finger to this thumb and let her go … and let her go hard.
The voice that came with it said: “What the hell man…slow down a second. It’s 2:30am. Take a chill pill already and go APPRECIATE bb’s magical mind, via her blog.”
I could see myself smiling, from ear to ear because I knew, instantly, that was the straight-forward wake-up call and directive I needed to go do something I’d been meaning to do all damn week:
Read Heather’s PERSONAL blog (yes, Heather, my business partner of 20 months, and now the love of my life. bb, a pet name I give her, is just something you’ll have to guess at for now).
And, of course, it’s not that I was resisting reading what I knew she had been spending a lot of quality time on (and not quantity either - holy smokes, can this girl write fast or what? Er, never mind, you can’t answer that. Just believe me; she can crank out some amazing, profound, highly valuable lessons and personal observations in no time flat).
It’s just that, as the title of this blog post suggest, my brain train moves at a pretty focused, steady pace when I’m in work mode. Yes, I consciously know, if I’d let myself re-adjust to something outside my focus every now and then, I’d accomplish even more …. in less time.
I was telling Heather, just the other day, that us humans always seem to get reinspired and attract new, powerful ideas when we pull ourselves away from our familiar environment.
That could simply just mean going somewhere private and stretching your legs. Or, taking a short run / power walk around the blog. Heck, it might even be as easy as walking in the next room and petting your pets like I now regularly do (our cats Mercury and Jupiter always remind me just how uncomplicated life can be).
So, to bring my first blog post, at my PERSONAL blog site, to a close:
Remember, that in the business of doing business, or being a SOHO (Small Office Home Office) entrepreneur, there will always be too much - way too much - to do.
Schedule the big things FIRST, feel good about working through them with the resources you have access to, and STOP and take a “break” every now and then.
Trust me when I tell you, by doing this one simple thing, you’ll end up feeling less rushed, more productive, and incredibly inspired.
Observing life’s most under-appreciated moments, and doing something with them (like writing about them or sharing them with somebody you love), can often be an inexpensive ticket to self-freedom.
Until Next Time,
Your Partner in the Quest For
Living a Life Without Limits
P.S. Until I get this blog ramped up with some MORE compelling, useful, entertaining thoughts, ideas, and resources, skip on over to Heather’s blog. She has some posts you’ll definitely want to check out.
